What Is an Aircon Gas Top-Up?
Your air conditioner cools by circulating refrigerant gas in a sealed loop. In a healthy system that gas never runs out — so if the level is low, it leaked. A gas top-up (gas refill) restores the refrigerant to the correct pressure so the unit blows cold again.
That's why a proper top-up always starts with a pressure test and leak check. Refilling a leaking system is money down the drain: the cold lasts a few weeks, then you pay again. We check first, seal leaks where found, then charge the system to spec for your refrigerant type — R22, R410A or R32.
Signs Your Aircon Is Low on Gas
- Air blows but it isn't cold — or only slightly cool
- The unit takes far longer than usual to cool the room
- Ice forming on the copper pipes or evaporator coil
- Hissing or bubbling sound near the indoor unit or pipes
- Electricity bill climbing while cooling gets worse
- The compressor cuts in and out more often than before

Our Gas Refill Process
- Pressure test to confirm the gas level and refrigerant type
- Leak detection on pipes, joints and coils — we never blind-refill
- Seal or repair the leak where one is found (quoted before work)
- Recharge to manufacturer specification for R22 / R410A / R32
- Test run with outlet-temperature measurement before we leave
R22, R410A or R32 — Does It Matter?
Yes — each refrigerant runs at different pressures and prices, and they can't be mixed. Older units (pre-2015) typically use R22, which is being phased out in Malaysia and costs more per kilogram. Newer inverter units use R410A or R32. Our technicians carry all three and will tell you which your unit takes — and when an old R22 unit is worth replacing instead of refilling.
FAQ
Gas Top-Up — Your Questions Answered
How much is an aircon gas top-up in Malaysia?
At MY AC COOL a gas top-up is RM150–RM250 per unit depending on refrigerant type (R22 costs more than R32/R410A) and how much gas is needed. If a leak must be repaired first, the combined job is RM200–RM400.
How often should aircon gas be topped up?
Never, ideally — refrigerant doesn't get 'used up'. If your unit needs regular top-ups, it has a leak that should be found and sealed. That's why our service always includes leak detection.
How do I know if my aircond gas is leaking?
Weak cooling, ice on the copper pipes, hissing sounds, and a unit that needs a refill every few months are the classic signs. A pressure test confirms it in minutes.
