Chemical Wash vs General Aircon Cleaning: Which Do You Need?

People often use "cleaning" and "chemical wash" as if they're the same thing. They aren't — and choosing the wrong one is how units start underperforming and smelling.
What a general clean covers
A general (surface) cleaning removes the dust you can see and feel:
- Filters washed and dried
- Fins and casing wiped down
- Unit rinsed and dried
It keeps airflow healthy and is perfect for low-usage units or homes without pets.
What a chemical wash covers
A chemical wash goes deeper. A detergent is applied to the evaporator coil to dissolve the grease, mildew and bacteria that a surface rinse simply slides off, then the coil is pressure-rinsed so no residue remains. The result:
- Coil heat exchange restored → colder air
- Musty and sour smells removed
- Better energy efficiency
